STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND DIVERSITY PROGRAMS
Mission
Student Activities and Diversity Programs complement the Institute for Extended Learning’s (IEL) educational programs and provides for the holistic development of the student. The office promotes the recruitment, retention, and successful completion of educational programs for all students. It fosters a climate that embraces diversity and provides co-curricular opportunities to enhance the student experience at the IEL.
How the Mission is Accomplished
Student Activities and Diversity Programs accomplish their mission through five core areas.
- Resources
The office serves as a resource for all of the IEL centers. The coordinator provides assistance, advice, and collaboration on projects with students, faculty, and staff.
The office is currently designing materials, ideas, and suggestions on workshops and diversity programs that can be distributed to the centers as they request them. The office is also building a library consisting of books, periodicals, videos, and other materials related to topics on diversity that will be available for checkout. - Services
The office is creating different services to help students be successful at the IEL and to make the most out of their time with us.
Student Ambassador Program - Co-curricular Programming
Student Activities and Diversity Programs sponsor workshops, speakers, celebrations, cultural performances, and other programs for the IEL community. The office will establish a Student Advisory Board that helps design, implement, and promote the different events.
Student Activities - Community Connections/Service Learning
Student Activities and Diversity Programs build and maintain relationships with diverse multicultural, community organizations. These connections help the office to work with the communities the IEL targets to bring to the IEL and to bring our students into the community. - Academic Partnerships
Student Activities and Diversity Programs collaborate with faculty to help with student success. The office sponsors and funds professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Displaced Homemaker Program
