Curriculum Overview
ESSENTIAL OFFICE SKILLS
Those who enroll in GED, READING or ESL programs are also enrolled in the Computer Basics Program. The Basics courses include Keyboarding and Ten Key as well as competencies listed below. Each one has a certificate of completion given as the skills are completed.
Computer Basics is designed to prepare students to apply computer skills in both education and employment.
Competencies covered include:
Computer Fundamentals
Has basic keyboarding skills at 30 wpm at 95% accuracy.
Ten Key skills at 150 kpm at 95% accuracy.
Is able to turn a computer on and off and log in and out. Can follow printed directions and perform proper shut down procedures.
Can start and close programs and the internet.
Has learned to use a mouse effectively to navigate through menus and computer applications.
Is able to save and retrieve files to / from their student document folder.
Word Processing
Outline and organize information in writing, composing letters, writing descriptions, memos and reports, formatting documents, file saving and retrieval and page printing layout. Mail Merge and more advanced features can also be covered.
Create and edit documents, including tabs and formatting.
Create or edit forms, reports, letters and memos.
Spreadsheets
Managing worksheets, formating cells, formula basics, page layout, inserting graphics and print layout.
Build simple worksheets and use formatting in the cells.
Open and edit a worksheet, changing the formatting and data in the cells.
Create simple formulas and change page layout and pringing formatting.
Presentations
Presenting slides, inserting and editing slides, creating a slideshow, adding actions and events, printing handouts and printing formatting.
Create a simple presentation using slides.
Create and edit a full slide show using graphics and rearranging slides.
Modify a presentation with actions and sound.
Databases
Creating tables in design view, queries, formatting, reports and basic forms.
Create a query in design view and change the query to manipulate the data.
Create a simple report.
Create a simple form.
