Head Start/ECEAP/Early Head Start
Head Start and ECEAP rely heavily on families and community members to strengthen our programs.
There is a Head Start/Early Head Start Policy Council and an ECEAP Policy Council. Both are made up of parents and community representatives. As a member, you review and have broad authority over program goals; policies, including the establishment of enrollment criteria; hiring and termination of staff; and budgeting.
Members
Parents (or persons acting in the same role as parents) of children currently enrolled in a Spokane County Head Start/ECEAP/Early Head Start program — The parent can only represent the classroom of his or her child.
Local community members — These include private individuals and representatives of public agencies or organizations interested in or responsible for improving the educational opportunities, health, nutrition and socioeconomic well-being of preschool children and their families, and parents of formerly enrolled Head Start children.
Becoming a member
Parent members are elected by a majority vote at the first parent meeting of the school year at their center. At least one parent and one parent alternate are chosen from each site. Community members are selected and nominated by the district director.
